The Gorgeous Event Benefiting the City of Hope Foundation was lots of fun last week. I got to meet some great artists from the area, check out a fashion show featuring local boutiques and designers, and enjoy some good conversations. The Ritz Carlton provided great food and a picturesque backdrop for the event.
During the event, I discussed how Fashion and Art go hand in hand with Artist Victor Atkins (pictured above with his lovely wife). I took a liking to his current work entitled Prophetic Mirrors. At first glance, I was attracted to the bright stokes of paint, but soon I started to notice words popping out from the background.
On March 1st and 2nd, make sure to check out the exhibit: Color & Light: Art & Fashion showing the connections between Atkins' paintings and Fashions by designer Carmelita Couture from 5 to 9 p.m. on 433 Spruce Street. To check out more of his work, visit victor-atkins.com
Another local Artist, Denise Fike was there with her amazing life-size fashion illustrations. I even had the privledge of posing for an on the spot sketch. I never had one done before so I was very excited! Check it out on Instagram!
Representatives from Philly Fashion Week were also there to get everyone excited about the upcoming events taking place on February 21 to February 23. The glammed up shoes showcased above are from designer J. Pratt. How cool is the mixture of soft feathers with the tough spikes? That night I wanted to wear something that would reflect my love of art and hopes of springtime! I decided to wear this Hibiscus Floral Pencil skirt from Express because the digital design is really eye-catching. Since the skirt carried a lot of detail, I paired it with a Gap Essential Short Sleeve V-neck Tee in Neon Pink. This made the color in the skirt pop even more without taking away from it. I layered it with a black shirt underneath and one of my favorite lightweight jackets from Express. (Similar here and here.) I love when Philly has events like these to show off what the city has to offer. Plus, it always makes for a great night out!
