Goose Island Beer Company Migration Week

The connection between beer and food is always so interesting to me, especially since I'm not really a beer drinker. Recently, Goose Island Beer Company invited us to their Migration Week Event, not only to taste some of their beverages, but also to show us where we could pick them up locally in Philadelphia. The tour began in the kitchen of MANNA (2323 Ranstead St).

If you're not familiar with MANNA, they are a non-profit organization that cooks and delivers nutritious, medically-appropriate meals  and provides nutrition counseling to neighbors who are battling life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, renal disease and HIV/AIDS. The work is done entirely by volunteers 3 times a day, 7 days a week!

Usually, you won't find them serving beer, but being in their environment led to us learning about the organization and what they do. We tasted a few flavors such as the 312 (Chicago's area code and the birth place of Goose Island) and the very limited edition Bourbon County, which is only released on Black Friday, all while making pretzels and cheese dip also made with Goose Island Beer.

We later walked a few blocks to The Bards (2013 Walnut St.), an Irish Pub and later to Pub & Kitchen (1946 Lombard St.)

I really loved the food at the Pub & Kitchen. We tried everything from their Smoked Chili Vinager Chicken Wings to Rabbit Meatballs (yes, real rabbit) with polenta, green olives, and pine nuts.

By the end of the night, we left knowing a little more about Goose Island Beer Co., made some new friends, and caught up with others. Thanks Goose Island for a fun night! If you want to join a Migration Week Event near you, check out GooseIsland.com
