{Dining} Common Wealth Philadelphia
If you're looking for a taste of Coastal Carolina cooking with a flair, look no further than Common Wealth Philadelphia. We were recently invited to this amazing restaurant located in Old City, Philadelphia to try their newest menu. (Caution: The following pics may cause your mouth to water.)
They started our delicious journey off with the pork belly which was "fall of the fork" good. It was so tender and juicy and is something I highly recommend tasting.
If you're a fan of chicken and waffles like me, their version will send you over the edge. The buttermilk, fried chicken was good and crispy, while the waffles were warm with just enough sweetness. I was even more surprised to learn that the waffles were made of grits, especially if you read my previous post here.
You can't think about southern style food without thinking about a cajun style gumbo with chicken and shrimp. It was thick and hearty with just enough kick to it.
I don't remember ever having fried green tomatoes, but after trying the one pictured above, it might be something to consider more often. It was fried goodness with the surprise of a pickled shrimp. I brought my mom with me to the event and this was definitely her favorite dish.
Next, we tried their oysters on a half shell and the oyster bienville. Both have very unique, but flavorful taste. It would make a great small plates to order on your next visit.
The crayfish hush puppies were very yummy and the sauce really is a great touch!
Here is three layers of delectableness. The first layer is a tender seared scallop, followed by some savory collard greens all on top of a sweet corn hoecake drizzled with brandied apply-bacon cream sauce.
By this time, we were getting overly stuffed with all the great things on the menu, but we couldn't pass up the Shellfish n' Grits.
Last, but definitely not least, we enjoyed a freshly made, powdered donut. So, so good. All I needed was a glass of milk.
