We made it through the first month of 2021 and if you ask me it seemed to go by pretty fast. January was a pretty pivotal month for me. If I had to sum it up, I would say, it taught me how to break out of my comfort zone, set goals and push my boundaries.

I learned a lot about myself last month including the fact that I was getting way too comfortable with where I was. The biggest problem with being too comfortable is, if something out of the ordinary happens, it can throw us into a panic, not knowing what to do next. Then we start to dwell on the negative and not look ahead to what could be. Sitting there in a funk is not going to change anything, so I knew I had to get myself together and turn things around. In the past, I was never the type to really sit down and plan or set goals for myself because I was used to things not really working out the way I thought they would. I'm not saying I didn't have goals in general, but they were just that, general goals with no timeline, no step-by-step process on how to get there, just ideas. I think another issue was these goals were only limited to what others could do for me, for example for a job promotion. I could do my best everyday, but until the opportunity came up, I felt like there was nothing I could personally do, beside what I was already doing to move up in my career. These weren't things I couldn't personally control. It was literally just a timing game and as we all know time is something we can't buy back.

After I had wasted enough time thinking about what had happened, I learned to readjust my mindset. I decided to give this whole goal setting thing a try and to my surprise, I hit some pretty high peaks. I knew I wanted to stay consistence, so I started small and grew from there. For example, sometimes I would post on Instagram everyday for a few days and then go M.I.A. for a few more days. It wasn't that I didn't want to post, but I just didn't think I had the content to show, but in reality I had more than enough. Every opportunity I thought something was cool, took a picture or liked a product that was something I could've been sharing with my audience. Looking through my picture gallery on my phone, I found so many pictures I took thinking I was going to share, but I had simply forgot. Why? Because I didn't plan it out. The ironic thing is I always look forward to buying a planner every year, but never use it to its fullest potential. Boy, has that changed. Any idea that pops into my head, I try to write it down and plan it out. If I don't have my planner, I add it to the notes on my phone and then add it to my planner later. This has led to me not feeling pressured to post something just because, but posting something that has a meaning and to serve some sort of purpose.

The results of making those small, but meaningful changes, is that I have more opportunities opening up for me now, than I've had all last year. The best thing about these opportunities, is that I'm in control, and I do them on my own time. Yes, 2020 was a crazy year for all of us, but that's the past and it's time to plan ahead. I'm in the process of making some major changes in my life and I hope you're ready to take the ride with me. What are some goals you set for yourself? How do you plan on reaching those goals? How are you going to hold yourself accountable for when you don't? (Because let's be real, life happens.) This is only the beginning of something new and I'm excited to see where this year takes me. Be sure to join me on social media via Instagram, Twitter, or TikTok and let's have some fun!
