Dinner at South Jazz Kitchen

One of me and my families favorite restaurants in Philadelphia is the South Jazz Kitchen in Philadelphia's Spring Garden neighborhood. They were closed for a while due to Covid and dining restrictions, but they are finally back open! My friend was able to grab a late reservation a few weeks ago and I was super excited! South Jazz Kitchen is a black-owned restaurant and jazz club that served amazing southern style cuisine.

If you sit in the main dining room, you get a great view of the kitchen along with glass cabinets filled with many shelves of canned vegetables and other goods. The service was great as usual (they even comped us cornbread since our appetizers were a little delayed) and you can tell they took in consideration the safety of their guest by socially distancing tables throughout the space.

We were so happy to be there that our eyes were bigger then our stomachs, so we order appetizers. I went for the garlic butter shrimp and grits which are amazing and my friend ordered mac and cheese (I know very heavy appetizers). Let's just say I brought half of it home for brunch the next day.

For the main course, I ordered the Hudson Valley duck breast served with green beans and sweet potato gratin and yes it was delicious! The duck was tender and was topped with a sweet and tangy cheer wine and cherry gastrique while the potato gratin had that beautiful crunch on the top. Of course, after all this food we couldn't come to order dessert, but now that they are open for business again, I know we'll be back. If you're not ready to dine in yet, they are still doing take-out and delivery Thursday thru Sunday.
